For prayer and healing;
Frankincense was placed on the alter as stated in Leviticus 6:15, "... all the frankincense that is on the grain offering and burn this as its memorial portion on the altar, a pleasing aroma to the LORD". David described his prayer to be a pleasing aroma or "be counted as incense" in Psalm 141:2.
Myrrh was used as a burial spice and in purification rites in ancient Israel, was a primary ingredient of the Holy Anointing Oil. This speaks of suffering and death, but more importantly, our total deliverance & healing provided in the atoning work of Jesus.
But He was pierced for our transgressions; He was crushed for our iniquities; upon Him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with His wounds we are healed. Isaiah 53:5 ESV
Frankincense & Myrrh were two of the three prophetic gifts given to Jesus at His birth.
